Around 240 UK cinemas are now equipped with digital subtitling and audio Description systems.

Dolby and  DTS

For the time being, there are two different subtitling & audio description systems, made by Dolby and DTS. Most popular films are released with subtitles for BOTH systems, but sometimes a film is only compatible with one, or the other.

Hopefully this will change in 2007, when digital projectors will be more widely available, and more affordable. These have built in subtitle readers, but films will need to be produced in a ANOTHER format - one that is compatible with digital projector/server systems. The cinemas below are equipped with the DOLBY Screentalk system:
