STAGETEXT

If you enjoy subtitled films, you might also want to try out a captioned theatre performance. Captions are similar to subtitles; the full text of the play or musical appears on an LED unit, placed next to the stage or in the set, at the same time as the actors speak or sing. Character names, sound effects and offstage noises are also shown.

STAGETEXT, which provides captioning services to theatres around the UK, captions over 200 productions each year in more than 75 venues; in addition, many theatres have now invested in their own equipment and captioners and provide the service in-house.

For more information about captioned theatre, including a list of forthcoming productions and audience feedback, please visit www.stagetext.org

You can also receive regular details on captioned shows by joining the STAGETEXT mailing list. Just email enquiries@stagetext.org

"Captions have made all the difference between following a play and being baffled. Brilliant!" (hard of hearing theatregoer).
